Concentration
Imagine sitting at your desk writing. The room is quiet except for some soft jazz or classical musical playing the background. A large glass of iced tea nearby and your hand literally flying down the page or typing on the laptop when suddenly you hear this terrible pounding on the door demanding that it be opened to admit...the children. You know, it is really difficult to regain your concentration when the children somehow gain entrance to your sanctuary and insist on time to give you a play-by-play of their day.

Random Thoughts/Birthday Today
I have been so caught up on writing interesting little stories and creating characters profiles that I almost forgot to write about my progress here. I have no concrete agenda today, just some random thoughts. I am a member of a writing group that is currently writing a story that everyone can contribute to (I am currently lurking in the background, reading what's been written and writing my bit in my notebook because I'm not ready to put myself "out there" yet). It very scary letting my work go so others besides my trusted few can read it. I think my bit works good with whats been written, but again, that's what I think. Hopefully I will be ready one day soon. Anyway, I won't be long today, because today is my birthday and I have been celebrating all day. See ya!

Writing Exercise
I have several books that I am reading simultaneously. One of them is an idea book for writers. In it is an idea for setting time aside for writing. According to the author, you should set time aside to write, whether you actually write or not (kinda of what I am doing now). I have not been so disciplined that I was writing at a specific time. I have been writing when the mood struck me--which is about 2 to 3 times a week. (I wrote in an earlier post that writing every day was too much for me right now.) In this exercise from the book, I am to sit at my desk/computer for a specified length of time ( I get to set the length of time) and write...or twiddle my thumbs. I have had the most wonderful ideas just sitting here thinking I had nothing to write. Naturally, I have captured them all on paper. Imagine my surprise at this discovery about myself. I really can write everyday and it not be too much of a struggle. This exercise has really worked for me. I truly didn't think it would. So now I'm closing because...guess what? I have another exciting idea for a story coming on. See ya.
