Monday Musing

Good Morning!

I thought I'd share what my writing space looks like. I converted the second bedroom of my home into an office. The color scheme of the room is white, black with many shades of pink.

There are two windows wearing varying colors of pink curtains and white blinds. Between the windows is my black wooden triangle-shaped/corner desk with a black and fushia rolling chair. The desk holds my netbook, a landline phone, a dark pink based lamp with a white shade, my pink/fushia office tools and a clear in-tray for holding pages of edited works in progress and internet research.

My printer is on a black tray table next to the desk. Above the tray table, on the wall is a white magnetic board with small round multicolored magnets used as a storyboard or for messages.

Three black bookcases. One, a small two shelf bookcase. The top is used to hold open books currently in use. The shelves hold computer software and travel videos for out of state/country settings. Another, a small three shelf that holds five books each shelf. These are the books that are used all the time. The last, a large five shelf bookcase holding the rest of my books on craft of writing.

There is a TV for taking breaks from writing and a stereo system for listening to music when I need to be in the mood for writing romantic scenes.

A light pink, peach, beige and white sleeper sofa with throw pillows round out the room. It's used for those all important naps when the brain is too tired to function.

It's not too obvious that I like black and pink is it?

What is your writing space like?

  1. Hi Alicia, Your space sounds great. I love the color scheme. How about some photos? How nice to be so organized and color coordinated.

My space is a mess. If I posted a picture someone would call the producers of Buried Alive and suggest me for the show. My room doubles, no triples, as art/craft studio, writing/reading room, and storage for too much stuff. I do have a window that looks out onto the backyard trees.

My desk is somewhat organized with laptop to the right and a new big monitor in front and a new ergonomic keyboard. On the left a clear in-box turned upside down so I can shove notes underneath and put my pencil/pen holder on top. I have a desk lamp made to look like an old surveyor's tool, it goes with my 1923 oak editors' desk, which I bought from the newspaper office where I work when they remodeled.

I have some small speakers hooked up to my laptop and play "novel tracks" while I'm writing. A remote caddy holds TV/VCR/DVD/Satellite and Fan remotes. All the comforts of home.

    1. Color coordinated...definitely. Organized...not so much.

  2. Alicia, my two fave color combinations are black and pink and silver and blue. I think I could wallow for hours in your writing space.

My is going to get an overhaul (eventually). I do have my own den with writing stuff strewn everywhere. There is a large (ancient) wooden desk that I'm not sure how my husband ever got up the steps. It's a monster and does give me a lot of space. I have a new all-in-one computer with a large LCD screen, file cabinet (has to go) and 5 bookcases on the opposing wall. A stand behind the desk holdings a number of reference books I often use when I write (period books on the 1800s, character naming sourcebook, etc.). There are various prints on the walls, including a large framed one of my book cover for WEATHERING ROCK :)

I agree with Christy, Alicia. I would love to see a photo. Your writing space sounds gorgeous!

    1. What I failed to mention is that the 'lovely' sleeper sofa would be used for naps if it was not loaded with a few rows of folded laundry. And, to make that section of the room complete, there are a couple of baskets of clean clothes in front of the sofa that need another turn in the dryer to work out some of their wrinkles.
